LUNCH PRICES GO UP, FREE BREAKFAST FOR ALL IN 2012-13
School lunch prices are increasing 25 cents, from $1.75 to $2, for elementary schools and fifty cents, from $2 to $2.50 for middle and high schools.
The universal breakfast program has been expanded and free breakfast will be offered to ALL students.
The lunch price increase is a result of the federal Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010, which requires school districts to raise prices for full-price paid students to a rate equal to the federal reimbursement to districts who serve free student meals. Currently, that rate is $2.72 (or rounded to the nearest nickel).
School districts have five years from the passage of the act to fully implement the increase. To come into total compliance with the mandate and bring prices in line with the federal reimbursement rate, lunch prices will need to be raised again by 2015.
It is the first increase in lunch prices in Pinellas County Schools since the 2005-06 school year.

New Dress Code
by Sejour Fulks
The talk of Largo High School is the new and improved dress code. Well, not everyone thinks it’s so improved! The student body says that the "to the knee" policy is vastly overrated. The new dress code also stated that they will not allow spandex or yoga pants. The female packers’ are the most affected by the new dress code because most of the females the Packer Press interviewed felt as though they were disrespected and were quite surprised! The LHS female student body feel that as young adults they should not be instructed about the clothing they put on their bodies. Some were surprised because they had absolutely NO idea of this new dress code and one fellow packer said they wasted over $200 dollars on clothing they couldn’t return. The LHS male packers said they have no issue with the new dress code, snapbacks hats. The Administration of Largo High said that the male minds of LHS were distracted by their fellow female packers which the LHS male packers said wasn’t the case. The Administration redundantly said “Students continued to disobey, and took advantage of the mid-thigh.” They were also quite bewildered by the student bodies’ reactions, including the parents. They believed that the new dress code or as they would say ‘dressing for success’ was the way to go. LHS Administration believe it shouldn’t be that difficult to find suitable clothing for the new dress code and from perspective they didn’t seem that concerned. Well my fellow Packers, I’d advise you to suck it up and follow the rules or say hello to ISS!

Largo High School Achievers
by Alicia Keeley (Archived 07/09/2012)
Pablo Picasso once said “Action is the foundational key to all success, ” and two students who know this well are Laura Morris and Tehya Saylor, Largo High School’s 2011-2012 Valedictorian and Salutatorian. Laura Morris’ key to success was hard work and diligent study habits and she was also adamant about how much her mother’s and sister’s support has helped her reach this high achievement. Laura plans on attending USF to study biological sciences and pre-med. Tehya Saylor was also sure to explain that hard work and good study habits helped her on her way to academic success as well as taking harder more challenging classes. Tehya explained how the people who influenced and helped her the most were absolutely her friends, who are always there to lend her a helping hand and help her study before the next big test. Teyha plans on attending Boston University to study neurology.
